Notes on Fares and Surcharges

The City of Oneonta is divided into zones as shown on the map and the rates above apply to the specified zones. Rates are for one person only.

Surcharge Schedule

A fee of $1.00 may be charged for trips commenced and terminated between the hours of 6pm and 6am and upon all trips commenced and terminated during the 24-hour period comprising Sunday and legal holidays.

An optional .75 energy surcharge for all trips may be charged as long as the price of a gallon of gas exceeds $3.499 per gallon.

An additional passenger surcharge may be charged as follows: $1.00 per passenger up to three people (exclusive of one person base rate fare) of same party/same destination in addition to base zone fare schedule. $1.50 per passenger for four or more people (exclusive of one person base rate fare) of same party/same destination in addition to base zone to the maximum seating capacity for each vehicle, exclusive of driver.

A stop charge may be assessed of $1.50 per stop.

upon proof of age, those 62 years of age or older are entitled to $1.00 off the regulated fee.

Waiting Time: Free up to 2 minutes; $2.00 eac additional 3 minutes.

Taxicab driver is required to provide a receipt for services upon request.

Rate Rules

When the destination of the taxicab is the dividing line between two zones, the fare for the lesser zone will be charged.

One child 5 years of age or under shall ride free if accompanied by an adult passenger. No driver shall be required to accompany a child under 5 without an adult passenger.

No driver may solicit trips but non-solicited tips are allowed.

No driver shall carry any person other than the passenger first employing the taxicab without the consent of such passenger.

If there is a disputed fare the taxicab driver shall submit the dispute to the City Clerk’s Office. If passenger then makes payment, the driver shall give passenger a receipt. If payment made under protest, such will be recorded by the City Clerk along with a record of disposition of the dispute.

Rate zone schedule and zone map must be conspicuously posted in taxicab.

If any violation of the established rate schedule occurs, please report such violation to the City Clerk’s office.
